Row 500 For Preemies
On July 1, 2008 Carlene Anders and Gene Dowers will begin a 500 mile row on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. They will start at the Canadian Border on Lake Roosevelt and row down to the Tri-Cities, then back up the Snake River to Wawawaii Landing, home of the WSU Crew House. Gene and Carlene will portage around 11 dams and row through 16 counties during their 25 day trip. Our goal is $10,000 for March of Dimes
Why Preemies?
Gene and Carlene's son Danny was born Christmas Eve 2002 at 24 weeks gestation weighing 1 lb 10 oz. He was due April 12, 2003. During his 115 day stay at UW medical Center NICU he had PDA heart surgery, collapsed lungs, 86 x-rays, 7 weeks on ventilators, chest tube, 8 full blood transfusions and many other procedures. Now a healthy happy boy.

Today Carlene and Gene are at They plan to make it to the Tri-Cities however high winds are causing delays in their departure. Gene celebrated his birthday on July 16 at Crecent Bar with  friends, family, fireworks and cheesecake. They are averaging approximately 26 miles per day and are more than half way through their trip.
